Last year, 11,802 beds were filled in youth shelters within the Kitchener-Waterloo region, which has has continued to increase year over year. 5 Days for the Homeless- Laurier is a campaign where students are given the opportunity to support youth at risk and youth experiencing homelessness. Our campaign works hard to increase awareness of youth homelessness and abolish the negative stigmas surrounding homelessness, specifically in the Laurier community as well as in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Our campaign runs from March 9 th till the 14 th on the Laurier campus. We are dedicated to creating a society where all individuals experiencing homelessness are given an opportunity to rebuild their lives. This year we are supporting two local youth shelters, OneROOF and Argus, who provide the youth with multi-dimensional rehabilitation programs focusing on housing, mental health, employment and more. Youth are experiencing homelessness now more than ever, as 51% of youth who accessed the emergency shelters in 2017 were staying for the first time. Our campaign can only achieve its goals with the assistance of generous donations from members of our community. Without these donations, serving those in our area would not be possible. Thank you in advance for your donations, your generosity will go a long way to help youth at risk and youth experiencing homelessness in the Waterloo region.
